How to Make PECS Cards (Physical)
Materials you need:
- Printed PECS cards (color works best)
- Scissors or a paper cutter
- Laminating sheets and a laminator
- Velcro (hook & loop) dots or strips
- A binder, folder, or PECS communication board

Steps to Make PECS Cards

1. Print the Cards

3. Laminate the Cards

- Place each card into a laminating sheet.
​- Run the sheet through a laminator to make the cards sturdy and waterproof.

4. Add Velcro
​
- Stick one side of the Velcro (hook side) on the back of each card.
- Put the opposite side (loop side) on the PECS binder, folder, or board.
- This way, the cards can be easily attached and removed.

Alternatively, you can purchase a board that already has the soft loop side of Velcro applied, like I did, and use it to make your PECS board. This can make assembly easier and faster.
5. Trim the Laminated Cards

- Cut around each card again, leaving a small clear border so the seal stays intact.

The order of steps 4 and 5 can be switched, but doing step 4 first makes the process easier.

6. Organize the Cards​
​
- Arrange the cards in categories: food, activities, place, household etc.
- Store them in a binder or on a PECS board for quick access.
Tip: For frequent use, make two sets of cards: one for home and one for school.
